TO HELP A SOUTHEAST PORTLAND RESIDENT

PORTLAND, OR – More than 20 local businesses are joining REACH on Saturday, June 5

to help a southeast Portland senior make her home safe and livable by donating over$15,000 worth of home improvement supplies and materials.

Volunteers from RenovationConcepts, Portland’s leading team of sustainable building and design professionals, are teaming up with REACH Community Development to complete repairs on the home of a recently widowed 68-year-old Richmond neighborhood resident.The homeowner has received several citations from the City for a variety of housing code violations and is currently living in her car. It’s just too expensive for her to make the repairs in the current economic downturn.

“This time in my life has been so dark. Working with all these nice, generous people has been a light in my life. There are no words to explain what this means to me,” says the homeowner.

The economic downturn has hit Oregon homeowners especially hard, particularly seniors who are struggling to pay their mortgages and continue basic upkeep on their homes.

REACH responds to this community need by providing free home repairs for senior homeowners throughout Portland.
