OEC is offering a full-day training for volunteer leaders interested in learning the principles of toxic reduction in the home and the benefits to human health. Participants will also learn tips and tricks for becoming effective community advocates and for leading community workshops to bring the Eco-Healthy Home materials to more social circles.
Participants will be the first to receive our new Eco-Healthy Homes Check-up Kit.
The workshop is free, but space is limited to 16 participants. We’ll give first priority to current OEC volunteers and others who’ve shown a commitment to our mission through our action network or as supporting members.

News: The Oregonian: Portland State University offers second annual forum: ‘Understanding Sustainability: Perspectives from the Humanities’Author:By Carrie Sturrock Posted:May 10, 2010
http://blog.oregonlive.com/pdxgreen/2010/05/portland_satte_university_offe.html
A humanities scholar, a social scientist, a city planner and an artist might all come at sustainability from a different perspective but together they can enrich and inform each other. That’s the goal behind Portland State University’s second annual forum “Understanding Sustainability: Perspectives from the Humanities” May 20-22.
The forum is free and open to the public and promises to be less academic and more accessible to regular people like me than last year’s. The three-day event brings together 60 scholars from different disciplines and backgrounds “to draw out the controversies over the meaning and practice of sustainability” through panel discussions and conversations. Natalie Jeremijenko will give the keynote address “After Copenhagen: Emerging Strategies of Political Participation” Thursday, May 20, 7-9 p.m. after opening remarks.
Jeremijenko, the event’s promoters write, “is an internationally recognized artist and engineer whose work primarily explores the interface between society, the environment and technology. She is currently an associate professor at New York University in the Visual Art Department, and has affiliated faculty appointments in Computer Science and Environmental Studies.”
